Information about Our "álainn" Irish Sea Moss and Cambrian Blue Clay Beauty Bar for All Ages

Help your lovely skin nourishing bar soaps last as long as possible by keeping it out of water and water spray when not in use. We let our bars dry between uses and they last 3-4 times as long as when you leave it in the shower sitting in a place it is sprayed with water and/or can't fully dry.

Our Irish Sea Moss is 100% nature grown and wildcrafted straight from the sea. It is edible and grows in tidepools and along rocky coasts between North America and Europe. It comes in a range of colors and is loaded with very beneficial nutrients. In fact, it was a main source of food during Ireland’s Potato Famine in the 1840s. Sea moss is rich in sulfur and has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that may help reduce acne and aging skin. It's use in soap has been reported to help with eczema, dermatitis, minor burns and psoriasis due in part to citrulline-arginine, a compound in sea moss that releases amino acids that synthesize collagen which helps to keep your skin get and stay healthy.

Cambrian Blue Clay cleans, restores and renews the epidermis through very mild pumice action. It refreshes the skin, making it smooth and supple which can help minimize the appearance of wrinkles. It's use in soap stimulates blood circulation and enhances the metabolism of the skin cells. These regenerating properties can have a potent anti-aging action. Cambrian blue clay also has shown effective in relief from eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, and acne.

Spirulina is a gorgeous blue-green algae that has been praised for its many benefits. It contains all the essential amino acids and omega-3 fatty acids that are best for skincare, and is rich in an abundance of nutrients, including B vitamins and iron. Because of these qualities, spirulina makes a great addition to your skin care routine.

Nori Seaweed I decorate with bits of shiny Nori, from the same batch of seaweed I drop into our soup. It is vitamin packed, makes an excellent natural exfoliator. It is as gentle on skin as it is your pipes and septic system because it decomposes naturally. In soap it is as nourishing as it is in our soup. It's use has also been reported to help with cellulite and stretch mark reduction.

Activated Charcoal is a powerful detoxifier. It can bind to toxins and other undesirable compounds, removing them from the body and skin. It can reduce acne, redness and pore size. It extracts dirt and grime naturally and reduces pore size with regular use. It tightens and firms sensitive skin as a mild and natural exfoliator. 

Bergamot Essential Oil is extracted from the rinds of the fruit and is an aromatherapy favorite with a balancing effect on body and mind. Soothing and cooling, bergamot is ideal for dry or itchy skin. And according to research from 2007, bergamot essential oil has the ability to inhibit the growth of germs, viruses, and fungi. It is an analgesic which reduces the feeling of pain in the body and has anti-depressant, anti-septic, anti-spasmodic, deodorizing and astringent properties. It is reported to help alleviate anxiety.

Wild Orange Essential Oil is known to have uplifting and energizing aromatherapy effects as well as promote the production of collagen and increase blood flow to the skin. It is helpful at soothing dry and irritated as well as acne-prone skin.

Lavender Essential Oil has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety and even help to relieve headaches. Its ability to calm and relax has been known for centuries, but it also cleanses, detoxifies and balances all skin types. It's use in soap can treat acne, eczema and skin inflammation.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil is a natural antibacterial agent and antiseptic and inhibits the growth of unwanted bacteria on the skin's surface. Helps to soothe red and irritated skin. Eucalyptus soap is also known to be an antifungal soap. Its analgesic qualities can soothe muscle pain and soreness, so it's perfect for a post-workout shower or bath. Breathe deeply while using to help loosen congestion.

Himalayan Cedarwood "Essential Oil of the Gods" contains antiseptic properties. Woody and spicy aroma of Cedarwood can decrease stress levels and tension as it has a calming effect on the mind. It has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties which may make it beneficial for skin conditions like acne. The benefits in soap are as antioxidant, antiseptic, antifungal, and antibacterial. It is believed to be one of the very first extracts that modern humans ever used. 

(Calendula Flower infused) Sunflower Oil  is a great source of vitamin E, rich in nutrients and antioxidants, and is effective for combatting skincare issues like acne, inflammation, general redness and irritation of the skin. Natural soap infused with Calendula infused oils is considered to be a very effective herbal remedy for skin problems.

Shea Butter is ultra moisturizing and has fatty acids that will increase the hardness of soap, lather stability and lifespan of the soap. Shea butter also has a high concentration of linoleic and oleic acids which provide conditioning properties and produce gentle and mild soaps.

Cocoa Butter is high in fatty acids, which is why it's often touted for its ability to hydrate and nourish the skin and improve elasticity. It is anti-aging because it has antioxidants that combat damaging free radicals. Free radicals cause skin to look aged by breaking down collagen.

Olive Oil is the mildest and most gentle soap oil. It has moisturizing and skin-nourishing properties. It's very good for sensitive skin and helps to produce a good lather in the final product.

Coconut Oil is well known for its antimicrobial, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties in cold process soap which can reduce redness, inflammation, dead skin cells, and acne due its fatty acids. It is highly cleansing and conditioning to the skin and produces a wonderfully bubbly, creamy lather. 

Beef Tallow rendered and purified here in our kitchen from grass-fed local cattle, is loaded with vitamins A, D & K and antioxidants. It is known to promote rejuvenation of the skin by fighting free radicals that can cause wrinkles, it has the ability to restore vibrancy in skin and it is an intense moisturizer that assists in retaining the skins natural moisture. 

Castor Oil has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties of that make it useful in reducing acne, but it's also an excellent cleanser, humectant, and contributor of large, soapy bubbles.
